Ferny Grove State School's “Peace" Program is led by a group of dedicated year five students who have a desire to build peace within their lives and in their school community. These Peace Ambassadors and Advocates plan and conduct Peace activities throughout the course of the year.
Key Activities include:
- Anzac Day Activity that focuses on the message of Peace
- Peace Activities with the Prep students
- Creation of a video for the International Day of Peace
- Participation in a UNAA – Qld Division, Just Peace and Earth Charter workshop – “Youth Voices for Peace" Workshop
These activities build from promoting peace within themselves, the local community, through to understanding peace building on a global scale. They also align with the school's Values and Super Powers. Through their involvement in the various activities our students learn about the important work that Rotary and the United Nations perform. They develop an understanding of real-world issues and they are given a platform for their voices and opinions to be heard.

The students organised a morning of fun activities for the prep students with a focus on developing peaceful relationships across year levels. The students planned, prepared and implemented these activities themselves.
ANZAC Day Peace Doves - the students created a whole school art activity. The came up with the idea for the design and displayed the finished artwork in the hall in time for the ANZAC Day ceremony.
Students had the privilege of meeting Professor Marianne Hanson from ICAN, winners of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. This is the first time an Australian organisation has been awarded the prize and the students were fortunate to have the opportunity to hold the medal for themselves.
